FAQs

What is RSVP?

Rehabilitation Services Volunteer Project (RSVP) is an all volunteer, nonprofit organization that provides outpatient physical rehabilitation services and durable medical equipment to uninsured individuals with disabilities.

SERVICES

What services does RSVP provide?

RSVP provides both outpatient physical rehabilitation services (at RSVP-Clinic) as well as durable medical equipment (at RSVP-MED).

RSVP-Clinic Division provides outpatient services such as medical care, nursing care, pharmacist management, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, neuropsychological evaluation, social work consultation, and chaplaincy services. These services are provided by appointment only at our RSVP-Clinic, which takes place on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Because of our waiting list, the total amount of therapy we can provide any individual patient is limited. Please contact us to refer a patient.

RSVP-Medical Equipment Division (RSVP-MEDprovides new or recycled durable medical equipment to individuals with disability who can’t otherwise access this equipment.  We generally provide the following equipment: wheelchairs, wheelchair cushions, canes, walkers, and bathroom equipment. We are not able to guarantee we have a specific piece of equipment or one particular size, but we will do our best to find something to meet your needs. We occasionally have pediatric equipment available.

Who is eligible to receive services or equipment?

The mission of RSVP is to provide services and equipment to individuals with disabilities in our community who lack the resources to obtain these services. The majority of individuals that we serve are uninsured.

RSVP-Clinic, which provides outpatient rehabilitation services, is currently only able to provide services to patients with acquired brain injuries (such as traumatic brain injuries and strokes), spinal cord injuries, and amputations.

RSVP-MED, which provides new or recycled medical equipment, has no restrictions on the diagnoses served; anyone with a disability is eligible to receive equipment (if they lack the resources to obtain the equipment through other means). However, a prescription is required for a power wheelchair or a standing frame.

How much do services or equipment cost?

All services and equipment are provided free of charge.

How can I obtain services such as therapies?

Services are provided by appointment only at our RSVP-Clinic, which takes place on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Only patients with traumatic brain injuries, strokes, spinal cord injuries, and amputations are currently eligible for services. Please contact us to refer a patient. Please note that, because of our waiting list, the total amount of therapy we can provide any individual patient is limited.

VOLUNTEER

What type of volunteer opportunities are available?

We have a wide range of volunteer opportunities available, including both clinical and non-clinical positions.

Clinically, we rely on volunteer rehabilitation professionals such as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, neuropsychologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, music therapists , therapeutic recreation specialists, and social workers.

For non-clinicians, there are also volunteer opportunities available. Please see our “Get Involved” page for further information.

What are your volunteer priorities?

Clinical: We are especially looking for therapists: PT, OT, and SLP to volunteer in our RSVP-Clinic.

Non-Clinical: We are especially looking for people to pick up donated medical equipment from people’s homes and bring them to our equipment distribution center. Examples of donated equipment that might need to be picked up include: wheelchairs, walkers, tub benches, etc. Volunteering in this capacity allows for flexibility in both time commitment and scheduling.

What time commitment is required to be a volunteer?

There is no minimum time commitment. We welcome and appreciate as much (or as little) time as you are able to provide.

How do I volunteer?

Please see our “Get Involved” page for further information on volunteering.

DONATE

How can I donate money?

Are my donations tax deductible?

What percentage of donations are applied to patient care ?

Over 90% of all donations (financial or equipment) go towards patient care.
